Welcome to St Mary’s Cathedral
The largest and most grand of all of Perth’s cathedrals, St Mary’s, in Victoria Square, has been the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Perth for over 150 years. Originally built in 1865, the cathedral has undergone three separate expansions throughout its life.
The largest of which, began in 1926 and was only completed in 2009, making it the longest single construction project in Western Australia’s history.
Cathedral Diary
St Mary’s Cathedral is the mother church of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth – the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Perth. Experience for yourself the stunning beauty of St Mary’s Cathedral – the State’s largest church building and an icon of the City of Perth.
The thing the church needs most today is the ability to heal wounds and to warm the hearts of the faithful; it needs nearness, proximity. I see the church as a field hospital after battle. It is useless to ask a seriously injured person if he has high cholesterol and about the level of his blood sugars! You have to heal his wounds. Then we can talk about everything else. Heal the wounds, heal the wounds.
